Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) draw on the strength of both electric and conventional fuel engines. This allows the battery to be used intermittently, therefore it enables the battery to be smaller in size. This keeps vehicle cost down and weight manageable. However, it presents challenges such as smaller maintenance openings, smaller seals for communication points and cylindrical cell washers with seals that can be an escape route for outbursts of battery chemistry. PORON® Polyurethanes and BISCO® Silicones are designed to reliably hold a consistent force, keeping battery cells aligned, sealed from dust and fluid, and isolated from the damaging effects of vibration. These can be broken down into three categories:
BISCO® Silicones provide excellent UV resistance and cold temperature flexibility. PORON® Polyurethanes offer an economical alternative.
BISCO® Silicone foam’s Compression Set Resistance (C-set) withstands collapse caused by the stresses of compression and temperature over time. Thus extending the life of the battery by continuing to seal and absorb shock.
PORON® Polyurethane foams have a special ability to produce a very consistent level of force across a range of compressions. This allows the designer to predict the material’s behavior across varied dimensional tolerances.
How do I get started?
At Seal & Design, we can die-cut materials like this to custom measurements in a broad range of sizes due to the variety of die-cutting machines we have. We urge you contact us at Seal & Design Canada for more information regarding different materials for your project(s). Let us help you choose the right product for your next project.
